Benefits of Membership

Artline is the monthly newsletter of the Tidewater Art Alliance. In it you will find reports about membership activities, show opportunities, and current news about the Hampton Roads visual arts scene. Monthly member profiles put you in touch with the people of the area that are making the arts in Hampton Roads come alive, artists like you.

Monthly Programs offer lectures, mini workshops and interesting topics, like how to make slides or how to frame your artwork.

Annual Members Directory puts you in touch with all members, people who share your interests or can give you some answers to questions about your art.

Exclusive TAA sponsored shows – There are a lot of art shows in the Hampton Roads area, and several shows a year that are open only to TAA members:

TAA Juried Portfolio Show. Artists are expected to enter a body of six works, usually exhibited at the Courthouse Galleries in Portsmouth.
TAA Juried Miniature Show. Works are limited to miniature size only; this exhibit is usually around January at the Hermitage Museum in Norfolk.
TAA Juried Theme Show. Theme varies annually; location is usually the Charles Taylor Center for the Arts in Hampton.
TAA Members Show. This non-juried show is open to all members; award winners are selected by members’ votes. Location of this show varies.

Above all, the best of the benefits is the opportunity to meet and work with other artists in your own area, people that share your views and concerns about the arts in our region.

TAA works on Volunteer Power!
TAA will have more categories of membership. In order to keep TAA growing strong, we need more people to volunteer their time to help with all of the projects that keep us going and informed. Some samples of the jobs are: board member, show chair, publicity, fundraising, hospitality, general help, workshops, or an art demo during a meeting. Most of these jobs are shared with others, so little individual effort is anticipated. Volunteer some time to promote local art in Hampton Roads!

Whether you are an art student, a working artist, or a supporter of the visual arts, you are invited to become a member.

The membership year lasts one year from July to June of the following year. Yearly dues are due in July. Our membership is listed in the Membership Directory published once per year. To be listed, you must be up to date on your membership fees and provide the required information in the membership form.
